Tannya R. Ibarra Rivera was awarded a UC MEXUS-CONACYT Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2008-2009 to pursue research at the UCR Chemistry Department under the guidance of Professor Michael Pirrung. During her one-year stay, Ibarra Rivera conducted research on the development of new synthetic methodologies in organic chemistry. Her work has lead to the total synthesis of two new natural products, Syringolin A and B, which represent a new class of therapeutic agents for cancer. In the spring of 2010, she presented her work at the annual meeting of the American Chemistry Society in San Francisco, California. Results from this research were also published in Organic Letters (Pirrung, Biswas and Ibarra-Rivera 2010). Dr. Ibarra Rivera continues her stay as a postdoctoral scholar at UCR and can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
