As an international scholar, I am interested in the study of educational experiences in higher education institutions and the ways in which actors collaborate in the construction of university life. I graduated from the doctoral program in education at the Graduate School of Education at the University of California, Riverside. My participation as a resident scholar allowed me to engage in practices of higher education internationalization by doing two things. First, I explored the experiences of student mobility. Second, I encouraged the development of scholarly exchange between Mexican and U.S. scholars. To understand the experiences of Mexican students doing their graduate studies in the U.C. system, I conducted multiple interviews that led to the construction of UCMEXUS’ newsletter, La Monarca. My experience as a resident scholar also gave me an opportunity to consolidate a MEX-US research collaborative team to examine academic practices and the development of the academic identity among full-time and part-time faculty in the U.S. and Mexico. I view the scholar residency as a space of intellectual exchange that facilitates the generation of ideas and projects that emphasize the value of cultural diversity.
