Dept's strengths or focus: This research-based Ed.D. continues the tradition
established by the EDS Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning. The Ed.D.
course of study provides a research perspective on educational reform, with
the expectation of developing regional expertise for K-12 and post-secondary
teaching and learning. With its rich tradition of research and technological
innovation, UCSD is uniquely positioned in the region to provide the

Dept's strengths or focus: Miniaturization science (MEMS and NEMS) with
emphasis on chemical and biological applications. Current projects include
polymer actuators (for drug delivery), C-MEMS and CD based fluidics. Besides
miniaturization techniques and materials choices, scaling laws are
considered.
