░ Fellows who are in their 1st, 2nd and 3rd years are eligible to receive a supplement toward the payment of UC health insurance. UC MEXUS will supplement the health insurance fee for the individual fellow up to what the UC campus charges less the amount provided by CONACYT for the individual fellow and/or any other funding source.

**Fellows who are in good academic standing and have advanced to candidacy by their fifth year of funding, will receive the following monthly stipend amounts: $2,000 for single fellows and $2,400 for married fellows.

Stipend

Monthly stipend amounts are as follows:

Single: $1,100.00
Married: $1,375.00

CONACYT provides the stipend during the first through fourth years of the fellowship.

UC MEXUS provides the stipend during the fifth year of funding. At most most campuses, the stipend funds provided by UC MEXUS are administered by the campus Graduate Division or Graduate Studies office. At UC Davis and UC San Diego, doctoral students' departments administer the stipend funds. At the end of the fourth year of fellows' doctoral study (July), UC MEXUS will send fellows an informational email about the stipend that includes a more detailed description of who administers the funds, how fellows will receive the stipend, and when they will obtain it.

Increase of stipend

Fellows who are in good academic standing and have advanced to candidacy by their fifth year of funding, will receive the following monthly stipend amounts: $2,000 for single fellows and $2,400 for married fellows. Fellows who have not yet advanced to candidacy by their fifth year of funding will begin to receive the increased stipend only when they have advanced to candidacy and provide official notification of their advancement to UC MEXUS. The increased payments will not be retroactive. That is, they will only be implemented on the first day of the month following the fellow's advancement to candidacy until the end of the fifth year of funding.

Health Insurance

CONACYT provides doctoral students with support towards health insurance during the 1st through 3rd years. Please consult the CONACYT website for additional information in the section " Becas en el Extranjero."

UC MEXUS Health Supplement (1st -3rd year of funding)

UC MEXUS-CONACYT Doctoral Fellows who are in their 1st, 2nd and 3rd years are eligible to receive a supplement toward the payment of UC health insurance. UC MEXUS will supplement the health insurance fee for the individual fellow up to what the UC campus charges less the amount provided by CONACYT for the individual fellow and/or any other funding source. For students who are eligible, funds will be transferred to your UC campus Office of Graduate Division/Studies.

UC MEXUS provides students with support toward health insurance during the 4th and 5th year of funding. The amount of support will vary depending upon the fellow's marital status and the number of dependents. Fellows will have the option of obtaining insurance through the UC or a private provider. If they decide to purchase insurance solely for themselves through the University of California, UC MEXUS will send the funds directly to Graduate Division along with payment for non-resident tuition and fees, and the monthly stipend. If fellows decide to purchase insurance outside of UC, they will need to pay the invoice first and send documentation to UC MEXUS to be reimbursed. UC MEXUS sends an informational email about health insurance and reimbursement to all new 4th year doctoral students in July.

**UC MEXUS has a list of external health insurance providers available to all students interested in researching options for health insurance. Students may contact Veronica Sandoval by email atáveronica.sandoval@ucr.eduáto obtain the list. Please note that the list of providers is not a recommendation for the quality of coverage. Students should do their own research for strength and weaknesses of plans.

Taxes

UC MEXUS is unable to answer any questions regarding taxes. We suggest that fellows consult with the Office of International Students & Scholars (OISS) at their campus regarding this issue. They may provide fellows with some useful resources and/or direct them to a professional such as an accountant.

Final Fellowship Payment

The UC MEXUS-CONACYT Doctoral Fellowship provides up to five years of funding. The final fellowship payment occurs on the month fellows officially file their dissertation at their UC campus. (For example, if a fellow files the dissertation in May of his 5th year, the final payment of the stipend will be May.) For fellows who do not complete their doctoral program by the end of the fifth academic year, their final fellowship payment will be the last month of funding as indicated in the fellows' UC MEXUS award letter.
