Mexico City-based performance collective Lagartijas Tiradas al Sol (Lizards Lying in the Sun) will perform two free plays, Montserrat and El Camino Donde Nosotros Lloramos, at the Showcase exhibit space located in the Fox Entertainment Plaza in Downtown Riverside on Sunday, May 11.

Founded by Luisa Pardo and Gabino Rodríguez in 2003, the Lagartijas theatre company specializes in creating multimedia theatrical performances exploring personal and family histories alongside overlooked moments in social and political history. Their work reflects the new dynamics of contemporary Mexican culture. They have toured widely in Mexico, Europe, and the U.S., and join us in Riverside for one night only.

In Montserrat, director and actor Gabino Rodríguez stages an international search for his disappeared mother, Montserrat. The play is a mix of personal and inherited memory and documentary evidence. Somewhere between confessional theatre and whodunit, the play takes audiences on a quest to find Rodríguez' possibly living mother.

El Camino Donde Nosotros Lloramos (The Path Where We Shed Tears), is a project based on Pardo's and Rodriguez's travels and will newly premiere at this Riverside performance.

Both plays will be performed in Spanish with English subtitles. Admission is free and seating is first come, first served. The performances will be followed by an audience question-and-answer session.

*Please note that the Showcase exhibit space is located within the Fox Entertainment Plaza at 3635 Market St. in Riverside. It is just north of the Fox Theater and below "The Box" at sidewalk level. Parking is available in the Fox's garage next door or in downtown parking lots.
