Dear colleagues,

I am writing to inform you of my future plans to return to my research. I came to UC MEXUS at the end of 2003 and have truly enjoyed my term as director here. As you may know, the directorship of UC MEXUS is a five-year commitment. With the end of this period approaching in June 2008, I have decided not to seek a second term. After careful consideration, I feel the need to renew my commitment to teaching and my research on climate change. Interest in this topic has reached a critical mass, and I wish to turn my attention fully to research regarding alternatives for societal responses to the consequences of climate change.

I am confident that UC MEXUS will continue to serve the academic communities of California and Mexico and their societies at large. During my tenure, the Institute has expanded and strengthened research and educational opportunities between Mexico and the University of California and continues to seek opportunities to develop new binational ties.

Further announcements regarding the director's position will be forthcoming from the UC Office of the President. I invite you to consult the UC MEXUS webpage as well for additional information.

Sincerely,

Roberto Sanchez-Rodriguez
Director
